EPD recently delivered a marine, paralleling, engineered-to-order (ETO) switchboard for one of our clients. Our comprehensive and consultative approach led us to uncover harmonic current levels beyond that of the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) marine class limits in the vessel specification. Additionally, we discovered an enclosure ingress protection deficiency during the initial design specification review.
How was this issue resolved?
We provided an inexpensive – yet robust – harmonic current mitigation solution, as well as designed access panels to protect our client’s equipment from water ingress. This also allowed for quick access to the circuit breakers.
After working closely with our client’s naval architect, their shipyard team, end-users and other suppliers, we were able to deliver a totally integrated and fully-tested switchboard. We utilized one of our in-house diesel engine generator set (generously provided by Louisiana Cat) and tested the power management functionality well beyond that of your typical testing performed by others in this industry.
Our friends at Woodward supplied their latest easYgen and tie circuit breaker controllers which aided with the flexibility and ease our customers can rely on. The unique Schneider Electric I-line busway distribution solution allowed us to greatly reduce the number of custom bus bar components, which helped to shorten the total lead time, and thus lowered the overall costs of the project.
