Material Handler, Fabrication - Houston, TX

***This is a temp to hire position***

The Material Handler is responsible for all material movements for incoming materials, outgoing materials or products and inventory movements to the production floor.

The Material Handler must observe all company policies, procedures, hourly working rules, and environmental health & safety rules. All assigned work activities must be carried out to the highest level of expected production quality. The Material Handler must closely work with supervisors and leads to ensure materials are moved on time. The ideal candidate must be willing to work within a team environment and accept guidance and instruction from other team members.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Picking material from inventory to fill customer orders or for job kits
  • Wrapping products, packing and labeling
  • Package finished product for shipping (shrink wrapping, boxing, labeling), stage shipments, and load as necessary
  • Loading and unloading trucks
  • Responsible for quality control. No damaged product is sent out. No damaged material is accepted in
  • Operates pallet jack and/or forklift
  • Inspects inventory for defects, scratches or other damage. Report to lead and/or supervisor as necessary.
  • Moves waste to dumpsters
  • Follows policies and procedures to ensure efficient, effective, and safe warehouse operations
  • Responsibilities occasionally may require an adjusted work schedule, long days, and evening/weekend hours in order to meet deadlines
  • Maintain production area integrity, cleanliness, and organization according to established standards

Mechanical Assembler, Manufacturing - Houston, TX

The Mechanical Assembler is responsible for manufacturing assemblies and sub-assemblies according to established production quality standards and engineering specification. The ideal candidate must have a high mechanical aptitude and be familiar with a wide array of electrical / mechanical components and hardware.

The Mechanical Assembler must observe all company policies, procedures, hourly working rules, and environmental health & safety rules. All assigned work activities must be carried out to the highest level of expected production quality. The Mechanical Assembler must closely work with supervisors and leads to ensure projects are produced within specification and on time. The ideal candidate must be willing to work within a team environment and accept guidance and instruction from other team members.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Accurately assemble electrical and mechanical assemblies according to engineering specifications or drawings
  • Verify issued part numbers match engineering specifications
  • Work closely with supervisors and leads to ensure Jobs are completed accurately and within a timely manner
  • Effectively and accurately communicate any safety, quality or manufacturing issues to a supervisor in a timely manner
  • Enter Job production details within the company’s computer database
  • Maintain production area integrity, cleanliness, and organization according to established standards

Competencies:

Cycle Counter, Supply Chain - Houston, TX

***This is a temp to hire position***

The Cycle Counter ensures the integrity of the overall inventory on-hand count by performing daily counting activities and validating the accuracy of part labeling. The primary responsibilities of the Cycle Counter include continuous cycle counts, product inspections for mislabels and damage, shelf organization to encourage rotation and FIFO practices, inventory audits, and direct communication with Warehouse /Supply Chain employees to discuss issues and problems. Other responsibilities include transferring inventory, utilizing ERP to analyze part history and compiling stock reports for Supply Chain personnel.

1. Key Duties:

1.1 Daily:

a. Report for shift on time with a good attitude and a willingness to work and learn.
b. Operate forklifts in a safe and controlled manner.
c. Check in with Supply Chain Manager at 6:15AM each morning to go over counts from the previous day and receive new instructions.
d. Check in periodically with Supply Chain manager throughout the day as counts are complete.

i. Submit paperwork to the Supply Chain Associate/ Manager.
ii. Discuss any notable discrepancies or problems.

e. Count assigned shelves thoroughly and accurately.
i. Compare part description to part manufacturers label to ensure it is label correctly.

ii. Compare drawings and measurements for fabricated parts to ensure they are labeled correctly.
iii. Verify unit of measure is correct (ea. /pck. /ft. /bx.).

f. Utilize the ERP system to investigate parts.

i. Study part transaction history to pinpoint where mistakes occur.
ii. View purchase orders to determine receipt dates and other parts for possible mislabels.
iii. Determine which jobs the part was issued to in an effort to catch mistakes that may already have passed through to Manufacturing.

g. Organize shelves to be uniform, neat and functional .

i. Parts should be stocked with Order Pulling Associates in mind for ease of picking.
ii. Place smaller parts in bins or containers.

h. Transfer parts that overcrowd shelves.
i. Transfer parts to consolidate locations.
j. Move parts placed in the wrong location.
i. Use ERP to determine the correct location for parts.
k. Utilize forklifts, pallet jacks, ladders and steps to reach or bring down parts on higher shelves.

i. Ensure other employees are not at risk of being injured by falling debris or material while pulling parts and pallets off high shelves.
ii. Do not lean out over ladders to reach parts.
iii. Follow all standard safety procedures for ladders and equipment.

l. Wrap slow moving stock in plastic and place signed/dated stickers with counts onto the wrap.

i. Visually shows age of stock.
ii. Saves time counting in the future if wrap is undisturbed.
iii. Prevents dust or moisture damaging parts and material.

m. Observe and record damaged parts on the shelf discovered during the counts.

i. Process NCR’s or note the parts/material and report to manager.

1.2 Weekly:

a. Count raw material (copper/steel/aluminium) twice per week.

i. Aids purchasing decisions and helps keep on hand inventory as low as possible.

b. Count SAP and kanban parts every Monday morning.
c. Count hardware every Monday afternoon.
d. Meet with the Supply Chain Team to discuss weekly goals and objectives.

i. Certain internal projects may require counts or organization initiatives.
ii. Highlight issues that have arisen over the course of the week.
iii. Discuss opportunities for improvement.
iv. Go over any changes to the process.

1.3 Monthly:

a. Record slow moving stock.

i. Discuss with Supply Chain Associates and Manager in the weekly meeting.

b. Play a leading role in full physical inventories each year.

i. Help volunteers with count questions.
ii. Distribute paperwork.
iii. Verify counts.

2. Key Responsibilities:

a. Employee must be responsible for their own Safety.
b. Employee must read and fully understand the latest version of the Electronic Power Design, Inc. Employee Manual available on the PayChex website portal and in the Human Resources office.
c. Continuously increase inventory accuracy through counts and organization.
d. Report stock damage and NCR as necessary.
e. Identify slow moving stock to aid Supply Chain decisions.
f. Keep product securely packaged to avoid tarnishing discoloration, oxidization or deterioration of any kind.
g. Identify mislabeled parts on the shelf and rectify the issues accordingly.
h. Identify parts on incorrect shelves and relocate them to increase accuracy.

i. Perform root cause analysis on parts with issues (mislabels, wrong shelf etc.).
j. Embody a Team oriented work environment and relationship with other department members in order to collectively reach daily and overall company goals.
k. Maintain a safe and organized work area at all times, and report all potentially. hazardous equipment, conditions, or activities to the Supervisor, Manager or Safety Coordinator.
l. Perform other tasks as assigned by manager.
n. Must maintain a professional appearance in accordance with company policy.

3. Key Qualifications

a. Education

i. High school diploma or equivalent required.

b. Training Certifications

i. Forklift Certification required.

c. Applicable Experience

i. Minimum of 1 year in a warehouse or equivalent setting.
ii. Minimum of 1 year inventory control or cycle counting experience.
iii. Intermediate experience with ERP Systems and menu-based software.
iv. Intermediate experience with RF Scanners, handheld scanners, and tablets preferred.

d. Knowledge of material handling equipment (pallet jacks, forklifts, reach lifts etc.)
e. Knowledge of warehouse procedures.
f. Knowledge of standard safety practices.

g. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
h. Basic skill in Microsoft Word and Excel.

h. Demonstrated attention to detail, organization and time management skills.
i. Work independently as well as within a team.
j. Ability to understand instructions in written, oral or schedule format and perform duties accordingly.
k. Must be driven and hardworking.
l. Ability to drive a forklift.
m. Ability to stand for 8+ hours a day.
n. Ability to work in any weather conditions both outside and inside.
o. Ability to work in a fast paced, constantly changing environment.
p. Ability to lift up to 75lbs.
q. Ability to work 40 or more hours per week. Some weekend work required too.
