The research and development (R&D) team aid the company in staying competitive by investigating and analyzing existing products on the market, as well as trends within the industry. Armed with this information, R&D is able to develop improvements to EPD’s existing products and create new products that fill a market need. Inside EPD’s R&D testing laboratory are:

  • Two fully functional 1.2MW central solar inverters
  • A full power DC solar array simulator
  • Three diesel gen-sets
  • Over 2MW of load banks
  • A 50kwh lithium-ion battery bank
  • A 250kw bi-directional grid converter

EPD is a developer of energy management and power management control systems for microgrid and utility tied projects with multiple energy sources. Many of the solar PV projects EPD has completed required multiple sources of energy and energy storage, adding significant complexity. For those projects, EPD researched and vetted numerous battery technologies including:

The EPD testing laboratory is equipped with a fully functional 1.2MW utility scale solar inverter, which can be used for operational training as well as maintenance and repair training. EPD has an operational 328 kW solar field on-site, a 1.2MW solar simulator, diesel generators, load banks, battery banks, and other equipment available for advanced training as well.
