January 2020 – More and more offshore drilling rig operators concerned about power availability and reliability are turning to Electronic Power Design (EPD).

The company has just been awarded two new large drilling rig repower upgrade contracts.

Demand for EPD’s services continues to increase because EPD understands the critical role a consistent power supply plays in not only maintaining oil rig operations but also keeping workers safe and comfortable.

As a result, the company has developed a strong reputation for delivering the highest quality systems, components and installation services.

In the two new contracts, EPD will conduct on-site surveys, load flow analysis, short circuit calculations and protection device coordination studies that utilize the latest ETAP modeling software. American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) marine classification society will provide design review and factory acceptance test witnessing.

Realizing that commercial “off-the-shelf” components simply do not provide the reliability and performance clients need in the harsh conditions that many drilling rigs operate, EPD will also engineer to order (ETO) 600 volt paralleling switchgear and supply bus retrofit kits and UL845 motor control centers.

In addition, the contracts include installation assistance and commissioning to ensure the clients get the customized systems they need to operate most efficiently.

EPD’s extensive application knowledge and experience working with drilling rigs allows it to engineer the best possible solutions for clients.

EPD is proud of the trust clients place in its work and looks forward to helping more clients around the world (offshore and on land) get power system designs and applications that create efficiencies, enhance strengths and minimize weaknesses.
